The Green Sports Alliance announced the winners of their 2016 Environmental Innovator of the Year Award which highlights venues, events or universities who champion environmentally friendly movements or practices[i]. The Green Sports Alliance utilizes the wide spreading influence of sport to encourage sustainable communities across the world[ii].
The Environmental Innovator of the Year Award focus on not only the accomplishments made by these groups to reduce their environmental impact, but also groups who encourage the active participation from employees, spectators and players in the process. The process of innovating and implementing environmentally friendly practices is no small task and often requires a large group of individuals to buy in for it to be successful which explains why the award emphasizes collaboration and involvement.
This year’s winners are as follows[iii]:
San Francisco 49ers / Levi's Stadium (NFL) Miami Heat / American Airlines Arena (NBA) Seattle Mariners / Safeco Field (MLB) Vancouver Canucks / Rogers Arena (NHL) Houston Dynamo and Dash / BBVA Compass Stadium (MLS) University of Colorado Boulder (Collegiate) US Open Tennis Championships (Other Events/Leagues)
Yours Truly,
The Green Gatsby
